These orange and natural colour block storage baskets from The Basket Room are produced by a small Kenyan weaving cooperative of around forty members, with a dedicated dye manager who oversees colour quality and consistency. Sisal grass is rolled then hand-dyed in large vats of boiling water and hung out to dry before the weaving starts.
The partnership with this Kenyan cooperative helps women to support their families more comfortably, since subsistence farming alone often fails to meet the needs of a family. Buy one of our woven baskets and you actively support these weavers’ livelihoods, and our commitment to empowering women. Each woven basket comes with a thank you card from the weaving cooperative.
